Help Ori
Ori is a 22-year-old hero that served in the Nahal Brigade of the IDF. On December 20, 2023, he was critically injured by an explosion of a booby-trapped door in Gaza. He was classified as critically wounded, and in the first days after the injury his life was in real danger.
Ori suffers from a severe traumatic brain injury, which affects his cognitive abilities; from severe injuries to both of his hands; and most significantly – from extensive and complex facial injuries. His face was shattered – his facial bones and blood vessels were crushed – and he was left with very limited vision in his left eye, and with an especially complex challenge of facial reconstruction and rehabilitation. He is considered the most severely facially injured soldier of the war.
Since that day, Ori has undergone nearly 20 surgeries and a grueling rehabilitation process, in a determined struggle to regain his ability to speak and communicate, to use his hands, and to restore his self-confidence.
This fall, Ori will travel to the United States for a series of complex surgeries on his jaw, eye socket, cheekbones, and nose. These surgeries, which will take place over the course of about a year and a half, are essential to restoring his ability to eat, speak, breathe, and regain an aesthetic facial appearance – components that are necessary not only for physical recovery, but also for psychological healing and for his sense of dignity as a young man.
Despite everything, Ori has remained a determined fighter. With his optimism and courage, he inspires other wounded soldiers and continues to act for the return of the hostages from Gaza.
The Ministry of Defense funds only a single companion for Ori during his surgeries abroad.
With your help, through the Dror for the Wounded Foundation, we can support Ori and his family in areas not covered:
-
Funding so that both of his parents can alternate and support him throughout the long journey.
-
Funding flights for his two younger sisters – to strengthen Ori with their presence, and so they are not left for long periods of time without their parents in Israel.
-
Assistance in recovering the loss of income of his parents while they dedicate themselves to caring for Ori during his surgeries abroad.
Your generosity can make a difference. Every donation brings Ori closer to recovery – and reminds him that we NEVER LEAVE A SOLDIER BEHIND
